Conquering the Fear of Public Speaking through Webinars

Intercall

Americans are more scared to speak in public than they are of dying. In fact, public speaking is the number one fear for most Americans, surpassing even the fear of death.

According to the book, “Confident Public Speaking,” approximately 75 percent of people suffer from the fear of speaking in public, which negatively affects careers and success in life.

Many speakers find it difficult to calm their nerves enough to smoothly deliver a message in front of an audience. However, an overlooked, but effective solution is Webinars.

A 2007 survey by Frost & Sullivan found that nearly 50 percent of executives rarely or never use any type of conferencing. But when asked if their company is equipped with a group or conference room system, over 70 percent of respondents reported they had one.

By using Web conferencing, executives don’t have the outside distractions caused by a large or restless audience. The trend is growing. More and more executives are using Webinars to conquer their fear of public speaking.

“Even seasoned executives get nervous in front of large and small audiences,” said Scott Etzler, President of InterCall. “But surprisingly, not enough people utilize the benefits of Web conferencing as a way to communicate their messages to audiences, without having to physically be there. It’s just as effective. And, executives can dodge the anxiety associated with public speaking.”

  • hi there, I just thought of droping these lines to add something to the helpful mentiened ideas.every public speaker has to bear in mind that as a humain being,no one on the face of the earth can proclaim that he doesn't feel afraid of standing i front of a crowd.my point here is that feeling a fraid in such setuation is something purely natural,so wecannot triumph over it,the only alternative that is left for us is to learn how to speak in public while we are afraid.
