For Webinars and Web Events, Remember Your CAPP

1st in a four part series:

A Boston Globe article today discusses how large companies are investing in the latest video conferencing solutions.

While most small business won't be able to afford these expensive systems, the article really highlights the trend toward online meeting and collaborating, to both reduce costs and increase productivity.

As you set up your webinars and web events, there are many details to attend to.  An easy way to keep track of it all is to start by keeping your CAPP in mind at all times.

CAPP refers to Content, Audience, Presenter and Provider.  In this first article we'll give you some things to consider with respect to your webinar and web event Content.

Regarding your content, first on the list should be the value to your potential attendee.  Why should they come to your event?  Why should they invest their time?  What will they get out of it?  Remember, your attendee, whether a prospect or current customer has demands on their time just like you do.  They are balancing the demands placed on their time and constantly prioritizing how to spend it.  It’s your responsibility to create compelling, quality content that provides value to your attendee and leaves them better off having attended your event.

Once you know the value to the attendee, you’ll need to think about the format.  Webinars and web events give great flexibility to share and convey a wide range of information.  Most presentations start with a PowerPoint or Web application of some sort.  Your event might include several different formats to share.  You need to decide this in advance and build your presentation around the formats you’ll use.

When considering your format, you need to think about the visual appeal.  Don’t put up a PowePoint with 8 point font, for instance, because your audience won't be able to see it!  You should use images to convey ideas and beware of too much information.  Break up content into manageable chunks, and if you need help, get a designer to assist.

In our next session we'll discuss the second component of CAPP, your Audience.
